Being confident is a concept I have yet to master, but have made multiple progressive strides towards. To me, confidence is not merely about looks. As cheesy as it sounds, you have to let your inner beauty reflect your outer beauty. Since a young age, I always believed that I was a pretty girl. Yes, I have had multiple days where I felt like the ugliest thing on the planet and all I want to do is stay in my room, but that's what makes confidence such a difficult task to accomplish. It is a long process, but these steps have helped me tremendously.

  1. You're opinion of yourself is the only thing that matters: An important lesson that I had to realize was that I did not need to depend on other peoples opinions of me to feel beautiful or not. I still struggle at times and I find myself focusing too much on others perception of me. An important quote to live by is "it is none of my business on how other people feel about me." You cannot spend your life trying to please others or worry about how other people view you or you'll never reach your full potential. Being so dependent on peoples praise will only hurt you when they criticize or don't agree with your appearance. Again, I haven't fully perfected this but I'm way better than I was before.

  2. Feed your mind positive affirmations: I find myself more often than not looking at myself and telling myself how pretty I am both inside and out. Your mind only believes what you tell it, so it's imperative for you to feed it positive thoughts. It's so hard to be positive if you're always comparing yourself to other people. Yes, it's perfectly fine to praise beautiful girls and I'm all for uplifting women. However, please do not compare your looks to the next person.

  3. Designate Self-Care Days: Now, you may be asking yourself, how do I convince myself that I am a beautiful person inside and out? It takes time and lots and lots of self care. There may be days where you feel completely drained and your appearance shows it. Take some time for yourself. Evaluate past decisions and focus on growing to be a better person. I've found it helpful to channel all my thoughts into a journal. This allows me to release negative energy and promising myself to grow better. Self-care is not just about face masks and warm baths, even those these are very beneficial.

  4. Honestly, just do whatever makes you happy and makes you feel pretty: For me, I love doing my makeup and dressing up. I think I'm beautiful with or without makeup. However, makeup will always give me an extra confidence boost whenever I'm feeling down. I've learned to become so focused on bettering myself that I no longer focus on what other people have going on. Little affirmations throughout the day are very beneficial to happy thoughts. You have to remember that you're always going to be ugly to someone or drop dead gorgeous to others. When you look good, you feel good. So, do your makeup or put on clothes that you feel express you the best and make you feel comfortable in your own skin.

  5. Toxic People/Things: What's important is to keep positive people in your life who do not bring trouble or negativity. Negativity will very much take a toil on your appearance. So make sure to check the people around you. Are they helping or hurting you? Toxic people have a major affect on our appearance and cutting them off can bring a whole new look. Trust me when I say you feel 100x more confident when you're genuinely happy and are glowing. You might not realize how detrimental social media is to your mind until after you've taken a break from it. If you find yourself constantly comparing yourself to others, take some time away from social media to focus on bettering yourself.
